Internship program overview

The Advocate Health Summer Internship Program is a 7-week paid, structured experience that introduces high school students to health care careers through career exploration, hands-on learning, mentorship and professional development.

Participants gain meaningful exposure to health care environments while developing workplace skills and building connections with professionals across the organization.

Students should consider participating because it provides an early opportunity to explore healthcare career pathways, build confidence and prepare for future educational and career opportunities.

High school students participating in the Advocate Health Summer Internship Program can:

  • Explore a variety of health care careers and workplace environments through meaningful exposure and hands-on work experiences
  • Receive mentorship and guidance from health care professionals
  • Build confidence and develop professional workplace skills
  • Strengthen communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills
  • Build connections that support future educational and career goals
  • Participate in career exploration and professional development activities such as Inside the Profession Fridays

The Advocate Health Summer Internship Program is a 10-week paid, project-based experience that allows undergraduate and graduate students to apply advanced academic knowledge to strategic healthcare initiatives.

Through meaningful project work, mentorship and engagement with senior leaders, participants gain valuable experience addressing real-world healthcare challenges and receive exposure to future leadership opportunities, including preparation for Administrative Fellowship Program.

Students should consider participating in the program to accelerate their professional growth, strengthen their leadership capabilities and prepare for future leadership opportunities in health care.

Undergraduate and graduate students participating in the Advocate Health Summer Internship Program can:

  • Gain meaningful health care exposure through hands-on work experiences
  • Learn from experienced health care professionals through mentorship and coaching
  • Develop career readiness and professional skills by strengthening technical, analytical, communication and leadership competencies
  • Build professional networks with health care leaders and teammates across the organization
  • Explore health care careers, enterprise functions and industry trends though activities such as Inside the Profession Fridays
  • Continue building a career with Advocate Health through future internship opportunities, employment pathways, leadership development programs and Administrative Fellowship opportunities

Internship program details

Internship placements may be available across a variety of Advocate Health departments and functional areas such as Health Care Administration, Finance, Radiology, Community Engagement, Information Technology and more. Opportunities vary each year based on organizational needs.

  • High School: must be 16+
  • College undergraduate: Enrolled in a four-year degree program
  • College graduate student: Enrolled in a post-graduate program (ie. MBA, MHA, MPP, Doctoral)

Opportunities are available across clinical, administrative, operational and corporate functions throughout the organization. While all interns participate in a consistent program experience, specific internship locations, departments and in-person experiences vary based on the role and location.

Internship opportunities may be offered in-person or in a hybrid format, depending on team assignments and program activities.
